SERGI was found in january by a german family. They decided to keep him. Unfortunately Segi didn't want to live without other dogs, so they decided to adopt galga Tibah from us. All seemed perfect: garden, gentle and caring children, plenty of time to be spent with the dogs... Unfortunately, months later their economy came crashing down and they had to move to a small apartment in the centre of the village. The dogs didn't cope with the change. With a lot of heart ache, the owners decided to ask us for help to take both dogs in. Tibah quickly found a loving home, but because Sergi is insecure with people, we want an experienced family for him. SERGI is good with children who have experience with dogs and is also good with cats. He would need a family with experience, a garden and a confident dog.

CARAMELO was found at the entrance of a countryside home in Sevilla. They couldn't catch him at first, but patience and some food did the trick! He was taken to a shelter in Málaga but due to the heavy rains, he soon after came to us. CARAMELO was shy to start with and he protected his bed and food. Fortunately he soon realised he could choose his bed and he had food all day long, so he stopped protecting them. He's realxed now, likes to play and just enjoy life. He has a strong build, but is a weak dog inside. He needs a family with a garden and another female sighthound. He gets on well with males, but due to his past life we think it would be better for him to live with a female. CARAMELO still has a wound on his snout from wearing a metal muzzle. During mating season, the hunters who have males and females living together put this muzzles on some of the males to avoid fights. CARAMELO was definitely not the strongest in the ack and so he has verious scars from trying to defend himself. He had to show the rest of the males that he was also strong, eventhough he's not and that must have caused him a lot of stress. He is very interested in small dogs, and although he does not attack them, small dogs feel overwhelmed and intimidated by him. When we did the cat test he didn't seem to know what they were, but when he noticed that they had fur and jumped up, he showed a lot of enthusiasm, and this is why we thought it would be better if he wasn't with cats. BEETHOVEN was found abandoned and rescued by a lady. Unfortunately she kept recuing and keeping all the animals she rescued until the police had to be called. She had dogs locked in rooms and tied to brick walls with chains. She had lost control. Shelters nearby offered to take all dogs in, but they had difficulty rehoming a galgo, so they asked us for help. BEETHOVEN is a very gentle and affectionate dog. He loves to be cuddled. He feels threatened by dominant males and therefore we think he would need a family with females his size as he likes to play and he’s a strong boy. As he has spent so many months chained, there’s nothing he enjoys more than running around the garden. AFRODITA (AFRO) was found undernourished and weak. She breathed with difficulty and it was hard for her to stand up. AFRO arrived with sad eyes, but since then, she has eaten and slept a lot and now she LOVES to run around with her best friend GOLONDRINA and any other galgo that will join her. She’s become an affectionate, cheerful and playful galga. She’s good with cats and other dogs. AFRO needs to have constant food availability, as she eats during the whole day, but I’m sure that will change soon. She needs a family with another playful galgo/podenco/greyhound and a garden.

ROCKY landed at El Paraiso, a massive dog pound in Málaga. He had no chance of getting adopted and so we took him out. ROCKY is a gentle giant. He’s obedient, affectionate with both people and dogs and loves to investigate the garden. Unfortunately he could not be castrated as his testicles are too deep and near the femoral artery and his spine. Therefore, he needs to be with other males or castrated females. He’s a very stable and loving dog that needs a lot of love and company. He needs a family with another loving and playful galgo/podenco/greyhound and a garden. He is not aware how big he is and thinks he’s a Chihuahua, so a large dog companion would be more suitable. LISA & Mona were abandoned near a recycling plant in Nerja. There they found food and shelter, and kept going back 3-4 months. They shared the cats food with the cat colony. Summer started and the neighbours started complaining about the animals, so they called the police so that the pound would come to catch them and take them away. Luckily the police decided to call a friend who is an active animal rescuers, who phoned me for support. We arranged to leave home immediately and go to rescue the 2 galgos. It was 15:00 and 40ºC. We had wet dog food in the car, but their dread towards people was deeper. It took us 3 hours to finally manage to catch them. The recycling plant workers helped a lot! We all ended exhausted! LISA & MONA have needed a lot of dedication, patience, love and time to recover and LISA still needs more time. Due to his size, he was not going to get adopted and was dying from depression, so we decided to bring him home. He’s obedient, intelligent, a fast learner and he gets on well with all dogs. He might be a bit scared of dogs that are bigger than him, but if they are nice to him, he will quickly go to lick them and play with them. BETTY and Wilma were rescued from kennels where they had left them to die. Thankfully, a family found out and took them out, convincing the owner to hand them in. BETTY gave birth at the kennels and only 4 puppies survived. BETTY is very similar to her sister Wilma, but much more confident and thus more affectionate.

PIRULETA was found abandoned in a village. She was pregnant and undernourished. Her puppies found good homes, but she was left behind. Due to stress, she got a cold. Fortunately, now that she has a coat, a warm bed and plenty of found, she’s improving every day. PIRULETA is 100% love. She loves to be cuddled and will follow you everywhere next to your side, just to be with you and be stroked. She plays very well with the other dogs and is a cheerful and affectionate galga. She only has one flaw: she defends her food by growling at any dog passing by or getting close. We know that as soon as she realizes that she always has food available, this flaw will disappear. TIGRE was found in a hunting ground. It was getting dark and they decided to install a trap cage, as it was impossible to get close to him. Fortunately, he entered the cage on the third day and when he saw people getting close to pick him up, he couldn’t stop moving his tail. The timid TIGRE had disappeared and since that moment he has shown how friendly and affectionate he is. He’s obedient, playful and great with medium-large dogs. JONAN, Kevin & Pirata are all from the same owner. He didn't want them anymore. Luckily a Tierschutzerin found out and offered to take all 3 of them in. Unfortunately time went by and she couldn't find adoptants for them. This winter, the pound started to fill up and so they decided to take all the weakest dogs (puppies and small dogs) to the Tierschutzerins countryside home and bring the galgos back to the Auffangsstation. The vet asked us for help. We managed to find a provisional fosterfamily in La Puebla de Cazalla until we had space for them at our foster family in Málaga. JONAN is very playful, affectionate, sociable with people and other dogs and all in all a very easygoing dog. PUMA, ULISES and ALMA were all caught in the countryside with a huge dog cage. They where always getting into hunting grounds where they could have shot them dead, but thankfuly the guard is a dog-lover and he decided to put a large dog trap and catch them to then hand them in to the dog pound. PUMA is a gentle giant. He was very timid and scared because of the trauma of being caught with a cage. He's affectionate and sensible, but also has his moments of playing around and running like mad with the other galgos. We are amazed at how quickly he has adapted and he only took 2 days to trust us and follow us everywhere. He loves to follow ULISES and ALMA around and shares his food and bed with them without any problems. CLIVIA was taken to a massive dog pound in Orense, Galicia, in the north of Spain. She arrived with her 4 puppies, which were quickly adopted, but she was left behind, all alone and missing her pups. No one noticed her and she started to have a a depression. We organised a transport and was taken to our neighbours home, where she is living now as a foster dog. At the beginning it was very hard for her. She felt lost and disoriented, but she has slowly gained confidence and is starting to enjoy life. She's still timid and does not trust unknown people. She lives with other dogs and a cat, which she totally ignores. She's great at walking on the leash and is house-clean. CLIVIA could be an only-dog, but she needs a family that has experience with shy animals, who will have patience and give her endless amounts of love. JULIETA and Romeo were found together in a suburb. We don’t know much about their past, but due to how fit they are, we gather that they were stolen and soon after abandoned. Fortunately they were soon after rescued. JULIETA is an independent galga. She’s affectionate when she wants to and very obedient when one whistles. She doesn’t know her name yet. DORO and Naomi’s owner didn’t want them anymore. He urged us to take the dogs, so we had to quickly find transport and a safe place where they could stay. A friend offered to pick them up: both dogs were in good shape and not traumatized, but Doro hat 2 big infected wounds. DOROs owner told us that DORO had been attacked by a mastin and the wounds did not heal well. Now they are being treated and are healing well. DORO is perfect: affectionate, confident and he gets on well with dogs, cats and children. He’s in perfect shape. It was hard to rescue ALANA. They fed her for various weeks and observed what she did to plan how to catch her. She was first seen on the streets at the beginning of september and we are sure she was abandoned for not being "good enough". ALANA was terrified, but as we didn't have space at the time, she had to stay at the pound. She now in foster care in Málaga. She's still timid, but will get close to her fosterers asking for cuddles. She's affectionate, playful, needs a lot of love, a garden and other dogs to play with. ULISES was taken out of the pound and taken to the vets parents land house to protect him from diseases and fights. Unfortunately he was attacked by a mastin-mix whilste there. The wounds are healing well, but it is possible that he will always have scar marks.

An old galguero started to suffer from mental illness and thus could not take care of his dogs anymore. His family members asked the police for help. Fortunately the owner signed the dogs over to the Auffangsstations name and then to Galgo Freedoms name. We managed to find a provisional fosterfamily in La Puebla de Cazalla until we had space for them at our foster family in Málaga. VERDINO is a great dog. He's insecure when he meets strangers, but vey gentle and playful when he feels confident. He is obedient, comes when called and is gaining in confidence every day. PIT and his brother were rescued from enormous wildfires in the north of Spain. The ladies who rescued them took them to two different foster families. PITs brother was adopted by his foster family. PITs fostermum started to have psychological issues and she couldn’t take her of PIT anymore, so we took him to some kennels nearby. From there he travelled to our foster family in Málaga. PIT is a great dog, good with dogs of all ages, sizes and sexes and also with cats. He only needs to learn to trust people, but he’s improving day by day. He had lost a lot of muscle as he was living in a flat for all these years, but now that he has a garden and playmates, his muscles are building up again. He’s house-clean. PIRATA, Jonan & Kevin are all from the same owner. He didn’t want them anymore. Luckily a Tierschutzerin found out and offered to take all 3 of them in. Unfortunately time went by and she couldn’t find adoptants for them. This winter, the pound started to fill up and so they decided to take all the weakest dogs (puppies and small dogs) to the Tierschutzerins countryside home and bring the galgos back to the Auffangsstation. The vet asked us for help. We managed to find a provisional fosterfamily in La Puebla de Cazalla until we had space for them at our foster family in Málaga. PIRATA is very affectionate. He never gets into trouble and is the "well- behaved" dog of the group. MONA & Lisa were abandoned near a recycling plant in Nerja. There they found food and shelter, and kept going back 3-4 months. They shared the cats food with the cat colony. Summer started and the neighbours started complaining about the animals, so they called the police so that the pound would come to catch them and take them away. Luckily the police decided to call a friend who is an active animal rescuers, who phoned me for support. We arranged to leave home immediately and go to rescue the 2 galgos. It was 15:00 and 40ºC. We had wet dog food in the car, but their dread towards people was deeper. It took us 3 hours to finally manage to catch them. The recycling plant workers helped a lot! We all ended exhausted! MONA & Lisa have needed a lot of dedication, patience, love and time to recover and LISA still needs more time. GALLETANO and TETE were given to us by their owner. He’s the mayor of La Puebla de Cazalla, so it’s no surprise that he doesn’t do anything to control the hunters and their dogs. GALLETANO is a soft giant. He is very affectionate, loves human and dog contact and has always lived with males, so he’s very good with them. He’s also good with puppies and smaller dogs. He’s got semi-rough hair and he’s got a beautiful dark bridle coloured coat and gorgeous eyes. He’s ok with dog-friendly cats.

LÍA belonged to a gypsy family. They had a group of dogs in their country house, where they would go to feed them every 2-3 weeks. All the dogs were tied with chains and desperate. A volunteer found out and denounced them to get the dogs out of there. LÍA was one of these dogs. <div>LÍA is a Galgo mix. Her mother was a galgo, who died short after the rescued her. GOLONDRINA and her sister Campanera were taken to the killingstation of San Antón by their owner. Fortunately they called us and we managed to get them out before they would die of starvation, cold and illness. They were skin and bones, but they ate very well! GOLONDRINA is a sweet and bright girl. She has a very close relationship with her sister. They are very supportive between each other. They play a lot and love to feel free in the garden. PLUMA was rescued from the dog pound. Her owner had decided to dump her there because he considered her "useless". There she waited to be adopted or put down. PETRA was going to be killed by her owner. One of our neighbors decided to adopt her to save her life. PETRA was at his land house for 3 days, but she didn’t feel comfortable there so she escaped. During the next 3 days she went in circles around the same area, but it was impossible to catch her. On the 6th night, she returned to the land house and there they managed to catch her. They realized PETRA was not going to be safe there, as she would try to escape again, so they decided to hand her to us. As soon as I had put PETRA in the car, she started to relax and fell asleep. PETRA is great with all our dogs and her attitude has changed a lot. Within hours her fear started to go away and she started to become curious. She got close to smell us. 2 days after her arrival, she started to follow us around the garden and now she will ask for cuddles and loves to walk by our side. NELSON was found in the street. He had no chip. He was undernourished and filthy. Unfortunately he got a cold due to the bad weather and as we had no foster families available he had to recover at the pound. The pound had an avalanche of abandoned dogs after NELSON arrived, so the vet responsible for the pound, asked her parents to take him home so that he could recover. NELSON recovered quite well and fortunately he went directly to our foster home in Málaga without having to go back to the pound. NELSON is a playful, sweet, confident boy. He respects the dominant male of the pack and has quickly adapted. He asks for cuddles and looks for human and dog contact. A lovely lady took ROY out of the terrible dog pound of San Antón (Sevilla). ROY became totally attached to his rescuer and followed her everywhere. Days later after ROYs rescue, it rained heavily, breaking the fence. This meant that ROY would chase after the rescuers car, so she would have to lock him in her small and chaotic house for hours. Due to financial issues she could not repair the fence in a short time, so she asked various associations to take ROY in. ROY is a cheerful, playful and affectionate boy. His separation anxiety has disapeared and he has integrated perfectly at his foster home. He's great with children, dogs, cats and loves human contact. CURRO was taken to the pound as his owners had to move house and couldn't take him with them. CURRO had been living in a countryside home, he was kept chained during long periods of time. His family then moved to a town house and there they thought he was too big and took him to the pound. CURRO lost his home when he was 7 years old. As he's a big black dog no one has shown any interest in him. He got very depressed at the pound, but no one bothered to post his story or try to find him a home or foster family. CURRO had no other option than to get used to his new life. The pounds management has changed and they are giving the dogs more social media coverage and thats how we found out about CURROs sad story. Our foster family in Málaga will take care of him until he finds his forever home. He cannot stay there forever. He gets on well with all dogs, ignores cats and loves human contact, including children. BUDDY was seen by my friend Irene on her way back home. Luckily she had just been grocery shopping and used some of the food she bought as bait. It took her more than 1 hour to catch him as BUDDY was too scared to get close. Once rescued Irene called me asking for help. She had a full house and couldn't take BUDDY in. Our friend Isidoro offered to foster him and BUDDY was with him for a month. BUDDY is a very sensitive, affectionate and calm dog. He gets on well with all dogs and ignores cats. He loves dog and human company. He likes to investigate the garden and go for walks on the leash. He never pulls and is always looking at you! He's so sweet! He needs a home with a sensitive family who can give him lots of love and attention. He needs a garden at least another medium/large sized dog. AFRICA was found totally lost in the middle of the field. Fortunately a friend of ours went to rescue her. She managed to catch AFRICA and took her home. AFRICA has been living with Laura for various months. She used to living with dogs and cats. She's very affectionate, loves human company and is very cheerful when she trusts you. AFRICA has semi-long, blacky shiny hair. It's very soft! She's an agile girl who loves to play around with her dog mates. PAZ was found by my friend Irene as she was driving back home. She stopped the car and slowly opened the car door. PAZ was thrilled to see that someone was paying attention to her. She immediately realized that Irene had left her car door open, so she jumped into the car and sat at the passenger’s seat. Irene only had to close the door and get her microchip reader out. PAZ had no chip. As the pound was full, Irene decided to foster her until we had space. Unfortunately the coronavirus pandemic has caused all adoptions to freeze, which means that PAZ must stay with Irene. According to Irene, PAZ is clean, obedient, very affectionate, walks well on the leash and also off-leash. She gets on well with all of Irenes own dogs which all have different sizes, ages and sexes. MARINA was handed in by her hunter. She has a broken finger in one of her back legs, which will be operated when castrated to avoid having to go through two operations. She was very undernourished and weak, but she was very hungry and ate very well, so she has quickly recovered. She caught a very strong cold whilst at the pound, but thanks to her wonderful foster family, she is recovering very well. MARINA has no fear and loves people. She's sweet with dogs and will avoid conflict. She's clean inside the house, likes to go in the car and walks well on a leash. AKIRA was found waiting in front of a friends weekend-house. No one knows how long she had been there for. Her father tried to catch her, but she was too afraid, so he phoned his daughter. CELIA had to be captured with a trap cage as she was living in a very dangerous area crossing the motorway very often. The town hall and the police wanted her out of there as soon as possible. We were scared that someone would try to shoot her, so the vet pounds vet asked to borrow a trap cage so as to catch her. After being caught, CELIA became a sweet, affectionate, playful and sociable girl. She looks for human and dog contact and will join any dog that is playing. ARIA ist eine kleine, junge Galga die aber sehr gelitten haben muss. Irene hat sie auf der Autobahn gefunden. Es hat ihr viel Mühe gekostet sie einzufangen aber sie war total erschöpft, sehr dünn und ihre Pfoten hatten keine Kraft mehr. Sie ist zusammen gebrochen und konnte nicht weiter. Irene hat dann bei sich Zuhause gesehen, dass sie vin einem Hinterbein hinkte. Sie blieb mit ihr bis wir Platz hatten! Die Röntgenbilder zeigen, dass der Spezialist muss sie operieren. Es hätte von einem Autounfall sein können! ARIA hat Glück gehabt, denn sehr viele Hunde überleben das nicht, aber jetzt braucht sie unsere Hilfe um ein gutes Leben haben zu können. POPEYE is one of our recent rescues. He was handed in to us by his owner: a hunter with a bad reputation. He was taken to our foster family in Sevilla. He was dehydrated and terrorized. But he was too scared and would not settle in, so we decided to bring him home. POPEYE has only recently started to recover from his owners’ abuse and now that he’s in a home without men, he feels safer. He’s a real beauty with stunning eyes which are full of fear. His last owner had him in a barn, from where POPEYE wanted to escape. His nose is pink due to the scar he had from trying to open the barn door. Some white hair is slowly growing back.

MILA belonged to a hunter who didn't want her anymore, but he didn't want to abandon her or take her to the dog pound. Her name is short for "Milagros" which means "miracle" in spanish because her mother died whilst giving birth and so she was raised by another galga but she had little milk so the hunter didn't know if MILA would survive. MILA is somewhat timid and submissive, but we are sure that with love and time she will soon be much more confident. UPDATE JANUARY 2020: MILA has been attacked by one of our dogs. MILA is now scared to play and run. Unfortunately the dog that attacked her cannot be rehomed as she is a panicked dog and is only confident with my mother and me. HANNA was found in an industrial park. She was very frightened and disoriented. She didn't seem to know the area. Her abdomen looked as if she had given birth short before being caught, but she obviously didn't know the area, so we think they probably took the puppies away from her and then abandoned her. She had an erratic behaviour which made it impossible to catch her. It took them days for her to get in the trap cage, but she was finally hungry and went in. HANNA felt trapped at the pound. She had gone through too much in a very short period of time. Fortunately she went to live with the vets parents where they took care of her until we had a free space for her at our foster family in Málaga. There she lives with 2 teenagers and dogs of different sizes, ages and sexes. She gets on well with everyone. According to her foster parents, she's perfect: calm, sociable and affectionate. ASIA was found roaming around the streets and picked up by the pounds workers. She was fit, but scared. She was taken to the pound, where it was could and humid. There she got a nasty cold. Luckily we found out in time and she came to Galgo Freedom. Here she was isolated from the other dogs, but she had a warm coat and bed, cooked food, vitamins and a lot of love. ASIA has become a sweet, affectionate, funny, playful galga. She’s great with all our dogs, knows how to make herself be respected by the other dogs and even though she is timid with me, it’s slowly going away. She follows us around, walks well on a lead and is clean inside the house. She would be happy in a home with another playful dog her size or larger and a garden. INDIRA was called „Miseria“, which means "Misery" in english. She was taken to the dog pound San Antón by her owner and left there, but as it was full they would have to put her down immediately. One of the dog pound workers called Luisa asking for help. INDIRA was very scared and quite undernourished, but as she had a strange discharge the vet considered to castrate her as soon as possible just in case it was a uterus infection. It wasn't: she had 6 dead puppies inside. After the operation she was extremely weak and could not stand up because she had lost a lot of blood during the operation. She's now fully recovered, eats well and is starting to play. Her tits show that she has been used as a breeding machine, and she is not that old! INDIRA has learned to trust us and is good with other dogs and also cats, but she needs a family with experince with traumatised dogs and another dog with self-confidence so she can learn from him.

TEDY was found wandering around Irenes parents country house. Écija is a hunters village and unfortunately there are many abandoned animals. Irene has small dogs at home and both TEDY and YAMILA accepted them without problems. They came into Irenes home feeling insecure, but they quickly felt at home. As both Irene and her husband have the same work schedule, they could not leave both galgos at home alone, so they took them to the clinic in La Puebla de Cazalla, where they have been until the end of november. YAKO was going to be killed by his owner as a new born. He was born with deformed front legs. Luckily, his neighbor found out and asked him if she could keep the puppy. YAKO arrived to a home with a lot of love and attention. He was bottle fed and lived with a group of lovely dogs. The lady who rescued him lost her job recently and so she had to go back to live with her parents and she could not take YAKO with her due to his size. She also knew she could not afford to pay his vet bills, so she asked us for help. YAKO has never been mistreated and that shows. He’s very sociable, loves people and all other dogs. He has never lived with cats but he wants to play with them when he sees them. He was not aware how big and strong he was, but he has quickly learned to respect smaller animals (dogs and cats). He’s a gentle giant with a huge heart for children and people in general. When he arrived he had pain, so we took him to get x-rays done. He has some deformed bones and distended tendons due to the deformity, but that does not bother him at all, what bothered him was a small pointy finger bone that was too sharp and was scratching his flesh every time he put his finger on the floor. That’s why he was always limping. After the operation he walks and plays like any normal dog, but with his small deformity. He needs a home with a garden and another large and young dog to play with. PLATÓN was found in Cártama. They had seen him roaming about for a few days, but as he was in a very good shape and well kept, they thought he had escaped and someone would be missing him. Unfortunately he was actually abandoned. Our fosterhome took him in and they immediately fell in love with him. He is very affectionate, easy-going and gets on well with all their dogs of different ages, sexes and sizes. He's a huge and strong galgo, but he never uses his strength to intimidate. TROY was found wandering around the streets from La Puebla de Cazalla. He was totally disoriented and we think he had been abandoned only a few hours ago. He was desperately searching for his owner and he was thrilled when Veronica went to pick him up. TROY is terribly affectionate, gets on incredibly well with all dogs and children and ignores cats. JAZMIN was found in the middle of the countryside with a rope tied to her neck. She was terribly undernourished and very weak, but she didn’t lose the will to live. She was taken to the pound, where it was cold and humid, but fortunately we managed to bring her home only a few days later. JAZMIN weighed 10kg as she was rescued and she now weighs 24kg. She only needs to gain some muscle. JAZMIN has no traumas. She loves people and dogs. Loves to play and gets on well with all our dogs. With small dogs she doesn’t control her strength, so she plays with them as if playing with a middle sized dog. SULEIMA was found hiding in an abandoned ruin. She was surrounded by tins. It was cold and rainy. She's a young and small sized galga. VENUS was rescued near the motorway by one of the workers from the pound at La Puebla de Cazalla. Fortunately she was so weak and disoriented that it was easy to catch her. She had swollen tits and we think her owner had taken her puppies away from her and had thrown her out. She's still shy, but she likes to be cuddled once she trusts you. She's calm and we think she's an amazing dog. She's great with all our dogs and love sto play with the galgos. She sleep swith me at night and doesn't make a noise. She's also house trained. She needs a family that knows how to handle traumatized dogs and they would need to have at least one confident dog, as VENUS learns a lot from confident dogs.

ONNA was chained to a wall inside a courtyard. The owner abandoned the house when a police raid started and left ONNA. She was there for 3 days in the blazing sun with no water or food. A yound lady heard her cries and called the police. Thanks to the polices help we could get in and rescue ONNA. ONNAs owner never claimed her and so she was taken to one of our foster families as soon as the quarantine period was over. ONNA is a timid girl and clean inside the house.

TANIT (goddess of love and the moon in Ibiza) is pure love. She's always by ones side and loves to be cuddled. She will give you her paw so that you stroke her or will lick your hands. She's a very small sized galga, very fit and has been trained too much. Her back legs are a proof of this: her nails can barely be seen as they are so filed down from running behind a car in dirt tracks. She's good with children, but unfortunately not cat friendly. COLÓN was found in the motorway which goes to Sevilla. He had a large wound on his back and was totally desoriented and thirsty, but he was easily caught as he was exhausted. The lady who rescued him was just driving through Sevilla and could not keep him. The story quickly got to Luisa and she decided to take him in. COLÓN was stolen and then abandoned. They had recently cut his microchip off as he had a small wound in his neck. He was sore and everythying annoyed him. COLÓN is a 11 year old grandpa. We are sure he has been sold a few times and has had to fend for himself. When he was rescued and arrived at Luisas home, he got stressed with the dogs' barking. He's now at home with us and loves peace, quiet and no dominant male around bossing him around. He's great with medium and large sized dogs and ideally female.

Paloma was found in quite a bad state. She was very weak and undernourished and also had a uterus infection. We had to operate her as soon as she had gained some weight and was a bit stronger. Unfortunately she also had ehrlichiosis which didn't help, but she was given antibiotics and she's now healthy and fit. She's very affectionate, loves all animals and is also house-trained.

LIAM and Luke are approximately 5 months old. They where found in a solarpanel plot. Someone had thrown them over the fence. They were thirsty, hungry and scared when the maintenance lady went to check if all was ok. Due to the overload of abandoned animals, all shelters are full, so we decided together with our foster family to take them in. They stayed during a quarantine period at our fostermum in Sevilla and then came to our fosterfamily in Málaga where they live with other dogs and children and get on well with everyone. Both brothers got on well with everyone as soon as they arrived and suddently all their anxiety had disappeared. The neighbours have horses and both brothers found them interesting, but they left them in peace. LIAM is calmer than his brother.

SMART was seen living in a large open field in mid february. It was impossible to catch him and he would only get a bit closer when he saw other dogs. The heavy rains started and the river flooded the fields and part of the village. SMART had disappeared. We thought he had drowned. One day we received a call saying that SMART had been seen in a very deprived area where he was being chased by the gypsies with their motorbikes. We felt angry and sad at the same time. We called the pounds vet and she immediately decided to go with her own dog to find SMART and try to catch him. SMART had stayed around the area, so it was not hard to spot him, but only when he saw the vets dog, did he get close. The vet took some nice smelling food with her to make sure he would follow them. It worked very well and after an hour of stress did she manage to corner him in her garage. SMART had no chip. Now the problem was where to put him. Our foster family was full, we were also full, so he stayed for some days at the clinic where he recovered and then the vet took him home until we could go and get him. He was a very scared dog when we picked him up and di not trust anybody. After a week he has learned to play and loves it. He is starting to trust us and he is starting to realx and enjoy life. He likes being with other dogs and learns a lot from them. He also likes to go for a ride on the car.

ORIÓN was taken to the dog pound. They didn't tell us until 1 month later. Elenas husband went to pick him up and took him to our foster family in Sevilla. That's when I was sent the photos of a very undernourished Galgo with a wound on its leg. You could see all of its ribs and vertebrae. He's finally with us at Galgo Freedom and is starting to eat well and learn to relax. He's quite scared, but when you get close to him he stays still. He's now starting to follow us all around the plot! He has absolutely no self-esteem, but we hope he will soon start gaining weight, self-esteem and will start trusting people.

ALAN was taken by his family to the dog pound in Bacarot (Alicante). A friend saw him and decided to take him out and foster him. We offered to help with his adoption. ALAN has been psychologically mistreated. He’s timid and doesnt trust unkown people. Once he knows you and trusts you, he will gently get close to get cuddled if there are other dogs asking for attention too. ALAN enjoys the garden and having a comfy bed. He’s great with other dogs and due to the stress of all the changes he has gone through, he spends a lot of the time sleeping or lying down watching the other dogs.

CAPITÁN was given to us by a hunter who wanted to give his dog a good retirement. CAPITÁN lived with cats and for a short time also with children. He likes both of them. He’s also very gentle and loving with other dogs of all sized, ages and breeds. CAPITÁN loves people. He is very attached to his actual foster parents and loves to greet everyone who comes for a visit. He’s very good in the car and also at the vets. He is not traumatized in any sense. CAPITÁN has been seen by an eye-specialist in Málaga. He has improved considerably with the eye-cream they gave us, but right now it’s very dry and windy and so the dust gets into his eyes and they are still irritated.

ACACIA was picked up from the street whilst there was a police raid. There was a fight due to inter-clan rivalries and they decided to open each others garages to steal and inevitably the dogs and other animals escaped. ACACIA waited at the pound for her owner to claim her, but no one came, so after the legal time limit was over, we decided to put ACACIA and all the other galgos under our name. ACACIA is witty, funny, playful and obedient. She loves human and dog company.

CASTAÑUELA is a 7 year old galga who was handd in to the dog pound by her owner. Various associations were contacted, but they had no space for her. We saw her eyes and couln't say "no" to her. In her same cage was another galgo, and we felt we coulnd't leave him behind, so we organised to get both of them out. CASTAÑUELA is a very cheerful and affectionate "granny". Very vital and with a lot of personality. She love sto be with other dogs, specially those that are her size. She must have lived in a garage with cemented floors and lack of light as she has large areas of her body with no hair. GALA was found on a rainy day. It was pouring and a friend of ours found her in a corner trying to find a dry spot. She was so cold and tired that she was easily caught and then taken to a vet clinic, where the vet phoned us asking for help. She was taken to a foster family where she lived with children and other galgos, as well as german shepherds and mastines. GALA has been a very long time at our foster family and she is ready for a home now. She’s very affectionate and is always searching for human and dog contact.

TRUMAN was found eating from the bins in a very dangerous area, because of the proximity of the motorway. He was seen 3 days in a row and on the third day a young lady managed to catch him. The dog pound had no space for such a large dog and so he stayed ta the vet clinic for 2 weeks. A week ago the temperatures rose to 35ºC and we knew we had to take him out of there. Fortunately a frind was coming to our area and he brought him home. TRUMAN has a wonderful character. He's great with all dogs and loves human contact. He was very anxious when he arrived and was scared of large dogs, but he has recovered well and has fogotten his anxieties. He likes to play with all dogs and also with anything he finds on his way. He arrived with very little hair in his neck and we think he was probably chained for most of his short life. He needs a very caring and loving family who will give him the attention he seeks. He would need a garden and a middle/large sized dog to play with. He's also very loving with children. Laura, a friend of mine, called me to tell me she had seen an extremely undernourished galgo but she had no safe place to put him in. We called the vet and she agreed to take him in as soon as Laura would see him again. He's 67cm high and weighed 10kg. He was taken to our foster family and I would go and pick him up as soon as his quarantine time was over. He was recovering really well. I arrived at our foster families home and was putting MAMBO inside my car when 2 large dogs starting attacking him. No onwers to be seen and we hadn't even heard them get close. MAMBO threw himself to the floor and I managed to scare the dogs away, but the damage was already done. I got him in the car and drove to our favourite vet in Torre del Mar, where they immediately took good care of him. In 10 days the stitches will be dry and the wounds healed and we will take the stitches out. MAMBO sleeps in my room and he is completely quiet the whole night. LUKE and Liam are approximately 5 months old. They where found in a solarpanel plot. Someone had thrown them over the fence. They were thirsty, hungry and scared when the maintenance lady went to check if all was ok. Due to the overload of abandoned animals, all shelters are full, so we decided together with our foster family to take them in. They stayed during a quarantine period at our fostermum in Sevilla and then came to our fosterfamily in Málaga where they live with other dogs and children and get on well with everyone. Both brothers got on well with everyone as soon as they arrived and suddently all their anxiety had disappeared. The neighbours have horses and both brothers found them interesting, but they left them in peace. LIAM is calmer than his brother.

CONFIANZA was taken to the dog pound San Antón by her owner and left there, but as it was full they would have to put her down immediately. One of the dog pound workers called Luisa asking for help. CONFIANZA was very scared and quite undernourished, had little fur on her face. But she's improving enormously! She's got scars in both her eyes and we will get her checked by a specialist.

SAMIRA was unlucky. She was captured by the workers from the kill shelter San Antón. No one was informed and so she was invisible. A few weeks after, they decided to ask us to take her out. She was soaking, undernourished, weak and she had a serious problem in one of her hind legs. First we had to pamper her and make sure she was strong for her to go through anesthetics and x-rays. A few days after arriving at one of our foster families, she saw she was on season. We immediately gave her vitamins and minerals so that the bleeding wouldn’t make her even weaker. The orthopedist recommends we remove the head of the femur to avoid pain and make sure she can move her hind leg and improve her walking ability.

ALMA was found strolling around a village in Sevilla. They tried to catch her, but she was terribly scared. They had seen her for various weeks and last time they saw her she was highly pregnant. She suddently disappeared. She had gone to give birth, but we didn't know where. Unfortunately the hunters found her hiding place before us and they stole all her puppies, except 2 that had died. ALMA had to be rescued with a lasso, but she went to a lovely foster family where she received a lot of love and she slowly recovered the confidence in humans. SOFÍA was given to us by her owner. He had her as a breeding machine. At the beginning she's a timid girl, but once she gets to know you, she is affectionate and very gentle. He was extremely cold and couldn't stop shivering. He had a thin rope tied to its neck. Our friend Sara fostered him. Witout their help, ERIK would now be dead. </p> <p>ERIK is a young male with many wounds all around his body. Thankfully he eats very well and will recover soon.</p> <p>ERIK is not traumatized and gets on well with other dogs and also with children. He has a stable personality and knows what he wants. </p> <p>He's very affectionate and obedient and has a beautiful semi-long fur.</p>

I found GUAPA as I was already heading home and had a handful of galgos in the back of the car. At first I thought it was a dead dog lying next to the road. As I drove past, she lifted her head and looked at the car. My heart stopped. I had no more space in the car and I didn´t know where to put her. I stopped the car and as I got close she walked away. Where she had laid were 3 frozen puppies. They were only 2 or 3 days old. Tears started to fall down my cheeks. I took the 3 pups and GUAPA started to follow me to the car. That’s how after a few minutes I managed to fit her in the front seat. I called Estefanía, who works at the dog pound, and she convinced her mother to foster her until we had space in Galgo Freedom. GUAPA had a microchip. We called the owner. He didn’t want her anymore. That’s how we found out that she was called GUAPA, which means beautiful. GUAPA had a lot of milk and no puppies, so she had to be treated. She’s very affectionate, good natured and gentle. She’s good with children, other dogs and cats

We don’t know anything about his past as he had no chip and the pound did not tell us where they had found him. We found out that he was going to be hanged, so our foster family immediately contacted the owner and took TACO to be operated. TACO is a young male, very affectionate and easy-going. We have known BARTOLOs owner for a long time. All his dogs are always in a bad state. He threatened us by saying that he would "get rid of the dog" if we didn't take him in. Both our foster family and our own home were full so we didn't know where to put poor BARTOLO. The pounds vet offered to foster him and try to rehome him. She wasn't lucky and no one offered to give BARTOLO a home. BARTOLO started to get very depressed and stopped eating, so we decided to pick BARTOLO up and bring him home. BARTOLO was quite skinny, sad and he had lost all confidence in human kind. It took him some time to relax, but now he eats well, sleeps a lot and is slowly recovering. RONNIE was found in the middle of a motorway. My friend stoped the car and tried to rescue him, but he was too scared. She decided to go home and come back with some food to try to catch him. He was not there anymore. As she drove back with tears in her eyes, she saw RONNIE at the entrance of the village. She stopped and gave him food trying to gain his confidence. She could see he was young and wanted to trust her, so after half an hour she had managed to put a lead around his neck and put him quickly in her car. At her home he behaved extremely well and loved the company of her dogs. He also enjoyed their human company and adapted quickly to their routine.

HECTOR has been attacked by a very large dog and he has many large wounds. He is recovering well, but he must have been terribly scared. He is not scared of anything or anyone and is a very happy and cheerful boy, who loves to play with the other galgos. He’s affectionate and a very sweet boy. He is also good in the car and all in all a very easy dog that is just starting to enjoy life. He limps a little bit with one of his front legs, but that doesn’t stop him from running and playing without showing any sign of pain. This is probably the reason why they abandoned him. They have done an xray where nothing serious can be seen, just a little bit of arthrosis.

He was positive to Anaplasmosis, but because he was not treated he did not put any weight on. Now he's being treated, is taking Omegas 3-6-9 and probiotics and is eating really well he looks like a different dog. He had lost all trust in humans and always thinks that he will be hit. When we give him a treat, he gets close and when he takes it he immediately runs away. He's slowly improving and now he likes to stroked and loves to get a massage. He's great with all the other dogs.

TWIGGY is a 3 month old up. She's very bright and a quick-learner. Very obedient when she hears whisteling and has quickly learned to deal with the big galgos. As we couldn’t organize the transport to our Pflegestelle so quickly, we found a lady who could have them for 10 days as a quarantine period. Here they lived with children and cats. He is not cat friendly, but 100% children friendly. He loves children and has no traumas. He goes quite well on the lead, and is happy to walk by your side. VALENTINO is very affectionate and loves to be with people.

Her owner was a strong rough guy, which made us understand why she’s more scared of male voices than female ones. She probably has a broken finger in one of her back legs which has healed by itself. It does not affect her in any way as she runs and plays without any problems. She didn’t want to have any human contact, but thanks to our foster family in Sevilla, she has recovered quite well. She gets on well with all dogs and enjoys going around the garden sniffing around. She’s only been a few days with us, but we know in a few weeks time she will come to us.

The owner was very angry and phoned us demanding to come and take him immediately. We went as fast as possible before he would hurt FLECOS and found a hungry and dehydrated dog, but he had no fear. He felt disoriented for a few days but settled in well. His front leg must have been broken some time ago, but it does not seem to bother him and runs incredibly fast. FLECOS has become a friendly and affectionate boy that gets on well with all dogs and seems to be always smiling!

<p></p> CATIVA spent a few months at the killing station of Ourense. The person who published Ausy in Facebook, asked us if we could also take CATIVA. He sent me a video of a dog walking up and down the cage. That was CATIVAs life in a cage. I was immediately heart-broken and could not say “no” to her. She travelled together with Ausy. CATIVA has been with us for a few days only, but her attitude has changed incredibly. On arrival she would run away from us and hide wherever possible. Now she will come to say hello in a very shy way, but for her that’s an enormous effort. CATIVA needs to be with a dog that trusts people. She learns very quickly for the other dogs reactions and I’m sure that will help her learn that not all humans are bad.</p>

DOLCE was found in the middle of the mountains by some friends who had gone hiking. There was no one around, so they decided to take her to back to the cottage they had rented out for the weekend. Someone had cut her chip out as she had a recent open wound. They called a friend we have in common, which immediately phoned me asking for help. DOLCE was taken to the vet clinic where they cured her wound and where they dewormed her and estimated her age. The vets mother decided to foster her, as our usual foster family was already full. She has been living with children, cats and dogs and she's an absolute darling.

ROCKET and Camelia were thrown over the pounds fence at La Puebla de Cazalla. ROCKET was very happy to hear voices of humans and scratched at the door. His whole body was full of wounds and he was immediately desinfected and his wounds sown. He was probably attacked by a pack of wild dogs. He was taken to our foster family where he recovered well. Whilst being cured, he never growled or bit, although it must have hurt incredibly! He is not traumatized and loves human company. He's great with dogs, people and ignores cats. ROCKET is incredibly loving, playful and is obedient too!

We took PALOMO out of the dog pound from La Puebla de Cazalla, because he was on the list to be euthanized. He’s an absolute beauty, so gentle and loving too. He has a very kind nature and is very sensitive and observing. As he is not a “big eater”, he is quite thin. PALOMO is a galgo and podenco ibicenco mix. You can see that he has probably been locked in for a long time, as he has little muscle. He limps a bit from his left leg, but after doing x-rays we have seen that it’s not a bone problem, but probably muscular due to an accident of some sort. Once he gains some weight and does more exercise, the limping should disappear.

LEVANTE belonged to a nasty hunter. All his dogs are always in a bad state. He threatened us by saying that he would “get rid of the dog” if we didn’t take him. Both our foster family and our own home were full so we didn’t know where to take poor LEVANTE. The mother of the pounds vet offered her help as a foster family. LEVANTE was very depressed, but thanks to her care and love, he started to gain weight and also confidence. He’s even used to being with children now. LEVANTE had 2 owners, and both treated him badly. LEVANTE needs a stable home where he can learn to live in society. He’s very loving and sweet.

MASERATI was skin and bones when he arrived at the dog pound. He's a large and impressive galgo. H'es a soft giant! MASERATI can't even move, because he is too undernourished. He spends the day sleeping and sunbathing. He eats when we give him food from our hand. This poor boy is always cold, so he always has his coat on to keep him warm and protected. We are giving him food supplements and fatty acids to try to nourish him as well and fast as possible. When he arrived he could hardly stand and was to weak to eat. We made a nourishing soup and that's the only thing he drank. He was always shivering. A few days later his eyes started to have a sparkle and now he likes to go for a walk around the garden. He's now eating a stew with meat and vegetables 5 times a day and is getting stronger every day. He will be an astonishing dog when he becomes fit and strong again.

MOGLY was found in the middle of the countryside, totally confused. They caught him and phoned us before taking him to the dogpound. He had an open wound in one of his back legs and limped. It has healed well and now you can only see a black scar. He was waiting since september 2016 for his chance and since he arrived home, he has settled in very well. At the beginning he is a bit shy, but then he loves being stroked. Now that it's very hot, he loves to bath in the dog pool.

BONO was found in the street and taken to the dog pound. They immediately contacted us and we organized a transport for him to go to our foster family. He has been there for a year because we always had more urgent cases that had to be taken care of before him. BONO is a soft giant. He's affectionate and gentle and gets on well with everyone. He follows us everywhere and even though he looks very fit, he's not very active and loves to sunbathe and eat! He's got a very peculiar coat which shines silver when hit by the sun, but otherwise looks like a dark grey.

GAIA was found in the motorway by a worker from the dog pound at La Puebla de Cazalla. She was totally disoriented and was very happy to see someone who wanted to help her. She spent 6 days at the dog pound and was then taken to our foster family, where she started to recover. GAIA is a small-sized galgo, young and very affectionate. She loves to great people. She is not traumatized but needs to gain a bit of weight. GAIA loves to be with other dogs and is not traumatized, which is incredible.

MORRIS was found near the highway of La Puebla de Cazalla. He was covered with wounds. Probably he had been attacked by other dogs. He was brought to the dog pound but was so depressed he was quickly taken to our foster family. He is VERY loving and gentle and good natured, but is scared when he eats. He is slowly gaining confidence and is putting on weight. He will come to greet us as soon as he hears us coming and will not stop wagging his tail which he moves in circles which is quite funny!

HERCULES landed at the pound a few days after the hunting season had ended, last February. He was very depressed. He slowly started to recover and enjoy human and dog company. Now he is fit and a very playful and cheerful chap. He spends the day sunbathing, playing with the other dogs and running around the garden. HERCULES is a very easy-going dog, comes running when you whistle and will start wagging his tail as soon as he sees you.

BONITAs owner died and she was taken to the dog pound where she refused to eat and became very depressed. She was taken to our fosterfamily where she slowly started to flourish. She has become an absolutely wonderful dog. She's young, playful and always cheerful. She's not traumatized or scared of anything and she finds everything fascinating. She loves the company of other dogs, people, children and cats. Whenever she finds something she can play with (leaves, a branch a piece of fabric...) she will take it and start throwing it in the air and picking it up again. She's a fast learner and is totally adorable!

TERRY is a gorgeous galgo. He is the son of a spanish champion, but due to a slight malformation in his shoulder, he has never been trained. That was his luck! Now he can play and run around without having to race. He’s a very sensitive boy. As soon as he hears us, he comes running and doesn’t stop wagging his tail. He panicked when he first saw the stairs, but has quickly learned and now races up and down with no problem.

CAMELIA was thrown over the dog pounds fence. She was terrorized, but after being caught and having eaten she felt safer and calmer. A few weeks later she has become a very affectionate and cheerful girl. The few days that Ferrari was here, she played "mother" with him! She is still underweight, but eats and rests well, so we know she will quickly be top fit! She loves to play with the other dogs and has already found her place withing the group. Loves to be cuddled and has no traumas. She's adorable!

I found MORGAN tied to a guardrail on the motorway when I was coming home after having picked up some rescued galgos in La Puebla de Cazalla. They had left him there so that he would be killed by a car or he would have starved to death. It’s forbidden to stop in a motorway, but I could not leave him there. When he saw me getting close, he nearly strangled himself from pulling so hard from the rope. He jumped in the car set and slept all the way back home. MORGAN is young, sweet, very affectionate and good with all dogs. He loves playing and being with people. He learns very quickly and has stolen our hearts.

ROSQUITA was handed in at the dog pound by her owner. A few days before the dog pound had asked us for urgent help: they had no more space and as they did not want to put healthy animals down they asked us to take all the galgos that arrived. ROSQUITA went directly to our foster family. She has been there since November 2016 as we had more urgent cases. ROSQUITA melts with every cuddle and spends the day walking by my side or between my legs. She’s very easy going and affectionate, but needs so much more love. All the love she has never had.

CUNERO was probably used for breeding, as he's 6 years old and has only had one owner. He's got a great nature, very calm, gentle and affectionate, but he must have been hit and shouted at, because he will try to make himself as small as possible when you try to stroke him. CUNERO, means "brought up by a surrogate mother", so we gather that probably due to his biological mother not having enough milk, he was fed by another mum! His front legs are looking outwards to due being his whole life in a garage with concrete floors.

AUSY spent a few months at the killing station of Ourense. No one took notice of her, until a volunteer published her on Facebook and I saw her photos. She stole my heart. I could sense her suffering and fear. We took a few weeks to organize the transport, and a few days before they told us that she had a big wound in her back. She was taken to a vet hospital in Ourense where she was cured and spent the night. She arrived home 1 day later. AUSY has 3 wounds and many scars all around her body, probably due to a dog fight. Luckily she survived and her wounds are healing well, but slowly. AUSY is sweet, loving, gentle, calm, obedient and gets on well with both people and other dogs.

FERRARI was abandoned in La Puebla de Cazalla and was walking around the streets looking for food. He was skin and bones, dehydrated and very weak. It was easy to catch him and Laura brought him to the clinic where he spent some days recovering. He was bloated due to parasites, and was immediately dewormed. He was then brought to our foster family where he spent some weeks with other puppies. He was abandoned due to a broken front leg which has mended in the wrong position, but that does not stop him from playing and running around. He’s adorable, very affectionate, gets on well with all dogs and participates in everything the pack does!

VALENTINA was found in a piece of land where many skinny galgos were kept. All were captured and Valentina went to a foster-family where she was looked after. But when the holidays came, nobody wanted her anymore and she was going to be taken to the dogpound. A young lady decided to help her and took her to a kennel and theN we were contacted and decided to take her on. Valentina is a superdog! She is beautiful,very, very kind and loving, loves to play and is in great shape. When we take her for walks she comes off the lead, runs with incredible power and beauty and when we whistle she comes back immediately. She is great with dogs of all sizes and cats. She is very stable and sure of herself…a real treasure of a dog!!!

ANUSCHKA arrived at Bacarot (Alicante) dog pound. They told us a white galgo has just arrived and she was on season and in a bad state. A friend picked her up and took her to a dog hotel where she could be calm and recover from all her wounds. She was kept isolated for some time, whilst we received the blood test results. She was healthy, but severly undernourished and dehydrated. With loads of food and love she would soon recover. She’s gentle, sweet, calm and very affectionate. ANUSCHKA will be staying with a foster family here in Spain until we find a forever home for her.

MORANTE arrived at the dog pound from La Puebla de Cazalla. He was very sad there, so we got him out and took him to our foster family, where he has recovered well, but not completely. MORANTE is a very good natured dog. He’s calm and a gentle giant. He has quite a large scar on his back. He’s easy-going and affectionate, but as he is not used to being cuddled, at first he didn’t come to be cuddled, now he’s the first one to say “hi” and get a pat and a hug. He’s got a gorgeous body and is in good shape. He just needs to learn that life is to be lived and enjoyed!

TESSA was supposed to be handed to us by her "galguero". While he took her out of his car, she escaped. We followed her, but she was too fast and had disappeared in a question of seconds. We called the police, the town hall, the vets and the killingstations and put posters up around the village. 4 days later we were notified that a car had hit her and we assumed she was dead. We live 45 minutes away from this village and we had lost all hopes of finding her. The police had published a post in Facebook asking citizens to help us find her, because her body was never found in the area where the car accident had occured. 3 months later I received a call at midnight that TESSY had been seen eating at some bins. We could not believe it! We knew it was her due to the collar she was wearing. No one could get closer than 10 meters and she would immediately run away if she felt threatened or scared. A lovely spanish couple decided to feed her every single night at the same place and at the same time so they could at least know where abouts she was moving. Every night she would go to eat her smelly sardines! Another dog rescue association was very kind to lend us a large trap cage and on the 22nd of september we set the cage and sat inside the car a few meters away and waited. A few minutes later she came running to eat the fish, but was very wary of the care, so she went around it for a few times until she realized she could only go in to get the sardines. 5 minutes later she was in the trap and from there we put her in my car. I had taken my own galgo, so that she would have company and would feel calmer. What is amazing about TESSA is that since the moment she went into my room and jumped on the bed, she is not afraid of us, wags her tail and comes to us every single time, follows us everywhere and is enjoying her life as never before. She is still scared of men and also of people she doesn't know. She's highly intelligent and it's amazing that shes survived during the 3 summer months with the blasting heat, hardly no water and surrounded by tourists and cars. She looks stunning and is in great shape!

A friend took him out and fostered him whilst they did blood tests, they dewormed him and fed him with adequate puppy food. He was very weak and had terrible digestive problems. He’s totally recovered now, plays a lot and loves to run with the other galgos. He comes immediately when you whistle. SOL is very affectionate and gets on well with all dogs. SOL means sunshine. She's full of life and is responding very well to the medication, so we are very optimistic about her recovery. It will be very hard to rehome her!

FLUFFY was taken to Córdobas dog pound by her owners. She has been there for more than 1 month. Her eyes spoke of fear and saddness. She was lost and didn’t understand what she had done wrong. FLUFFY was apparently male. It says it in her passport and microchip, but it’s not true, she’s actually female. They also said she was a very shy dog, and she’s not. She’s affectionate, playful, obedient and gentle. She’s very undernourished and was very hungry when she arrived home. She’s much clamer now she has realized there is always food available and no dogs screaming and people shouting. FLUFFY loves to play with toys and will happily bring them to your feet so that you can play fetch with her.

BLUE was seen in the centre of La Puebla de Cazalla. No one could catch her, even though she was skin and bones and was limping. They needed a dog catch pole to finally get hold of her. She's starting to trust people and now and again comes for a cuddle. She gets on well with all dogs and love sto play with them. She's slowly recovering some muscle in her injured hind leg, due to moderate exercise and good food. We feel she never really had a "childhood" and is now trying to make up for the lost time.

AGUA has been at Cordobas dog pound since april. She was found abandoned in the street. No one noticed her whilst confined in her cage. A friend of ours told us about her and we then took her out together with DIVA, DODO, CARICIA and FLUFFY. AGUA must have gone through a tough time and we think she was probably attacked by another dog, as she had a small hole in her back, which looks like a bite. She was full of knots and had gloopy eyes. Our foster family washed her and cut her hair so she would feel better. AGUA is both calm and active. She’s very affectionate and loves human company above all things.

As the dog pound was full, Laura decided to foster her, but it was hard for her as a puppy is very demanding and she had to work full-time and lives in a flat. Family Tavernier where her on holiday and offered to foster MARTHA, together with TITÁN. Sandra Scheidegger from Hundepension Grisette in Switzerland offered us her help to rehome them and so MARTHA and TITÁN flew together to Zürich. MARTHA is an obedient, affectionate and playful pup. She's only 3 months old and she has already gone through many changes in her life and has adapted incredibly well.

NAYARA was seen by some ladies in a slum in Sevilla. They tried to get close, but couldn´t. As it was getting dark they went back to try to see her and catch her. They saw her, but this time she had a big bleeding wound in one of her shoulders. It was pitch dark and she was scared. They caught her with the help of their own dogs, as she wanted to smell them. Poor NAYARA was shivering. When looking close at the wound, they found that it was a recent wound but it was infected. It was probably caused by someone trying to get rid of her microchip or someone hit her with a stick. The next day the wound was treated by a vet. One of the ladies who foud her called me crying. She didn’t know what to do with NAYARA, no we felt we couln´t say “no”. NAYARA is a noble, gentle, sweet and affectionate middle-sized galga. She loves everyone and is a cheerful and easy-going girl.

ESPERANZA and ELENA are sisters. ESPERANZA limps from one of her hind legs. When we castrate her, we will also do an x-ray of her leg. She seems shy in comparisson with her sister. She's the boss and her sister ESPERANZA follows her around. CASPER was found staggering by the side of the road. He was covered in frost and was shivering so badly that he could hardly walk. He was picked up by one of the dog pounds but, as the pound was full, we organized a transport so that CASPER could go to a pet hotel. He hated being locked in and suffered from stress. He was finally taken to our actual foster family, where he has enjoyed having a warm bed and as much food as he wanted. At Galgo Freedom he’s enjoying having so much space to run and play with his mates, but he would need a home where he can receive more attention and cuddles. CASPER is a gentle and good natured dog. He gets on well with both males and females and is very affectionate and kind. A great dog.

He's a lovely and sweet boy, who loves human contact and to be stroked and cuddled. He would be an ideal companion in a family with garden.

COPITO was left tied to the dog pounds gate in mid winter. That morning they found him covered in frost and even though they had no free space, they decided to put him inside the bathroom so that he would at least be a little bit warmer. COPITO was left inside that bathroom for 1 week, no one told us and we don’t know why. A volunteer called us for help and we immediately organized a transport for COPITO to go to our foster family. He left the pound and was incredibly stressed. It took him a week to recover, calm down and become the playfull and joyfull dog he is now. He had never seen a toy, so when he came to Galgo Freedom the first thing he did was grab a toy and start throwing it in the air. He will play with anything he finds. COPITO gets on well with all dogs and is very affectionate with people. He has a gorgeous white coat that shines.

APOLO is a 7 year old boy. He belonged to a galguero who didn’t mistreat him, but he needed space for new galgos so he asked if we wanted to have Apolo. APOLO is very fit for his age, but also very calm. He sometimes likes to play with females, but feels intimidated by males, so he growls, but doesn’t bite. He has a very gentle nature.

On the 4th of february we found Titán on our way back home. It was easy to catch him, as he desperately wanted to be with people. He was not well kept, but had a microchip. We talked to the owner and it was a lady who had just moved to an apartment with 2 small children. She told us she didn't want to have Titán back. That was Titáns lucky move! He's a great dog. He was fostered by family Tavernier, whom also took care of Martha. Both had a great time together. They flew to Zürich and are being fostered by Hundepension Grisette.

DANDY was lying in the street at La Puebla de Cazalla, Sevilla. He couldn’t stand up, he had no more strength. He was completely undernourished and dehydrated. People thought he was dead. A lady called the dogpound and Irene went to help. She found a living skeletton lying at the side of the street. She took DANDY to Bea, our vet and he was immediately connected to a drip and wrapped with warm blanckets. He stayed at the vets for a few days until he started to eat and wag his tail- he had won the battle! He could not stand up as he was still very very weak. His paws were orange from being soaked in iodine. Galgueros do this to heal their wounds as fast as possible so that they can keep hunting with them. DANDY is a gorgeous galgo: large and majestic. He loves to be with people and other dogs and is starting to “smile”. He eats 4 times a day and even though we can still see all of his bones, he will become a beautifull dog!

WHITNEY was brought to the killing-station in La Puebla de Cazalla, but spent there only a short time, as one of the pounds workers took her to a pet hotel in Écija where she spent 1 month, but due to stress she was not eating enough, so she lost weight. She was then taken to our foster family where she gradually put on some weight. She is with us now and enjoys lying in the sun, running around the plot and „chilling-out“. WHITNEY is a very friendly and affectionate galgo. She has a gorgeous athletic body, is elegant and has stunning eyes. She gets on well with everybodyand loves people.

I found NIKO crossing the motorway. I was lucky to be able to find a space where to stop. He was terrified, but after 10 minutes he came to get some cuddles. I managed to get him and he jumped into the car. He slept most of the way back home, but every time he woke up, he licked my hand whilst I was driving. NIKO is sweet, affectionate, loving, obedient and a very cheerfull dog. He’s around 1 year old and has become my shadow. He gets on well with everyone and is not traumatized.

AZIZA was handed in to us by her owner in La Puebla de Cazalla. She’s around 6 years old and when she arrived she had very sad and dull eyes. After spending 2 days with us, eating, sleeping and sun-bathing she has started to wag her tail and to play with the rest of the galgos. She now comes to us to get cuddled and stroked and loves when we put her warm coat before getting into bed.

ESTRELLA is a mix-breed female with beautifull long hair an gorgeous orange eyes that show how scared she is and how much she has suffered. ESTRELLA was taken to the dog pound in Sevilla. They thought she was a male, so they put her in the "male section" where she spent a whole year. Males are usually euthanized sooner that females as they are harder to rehome. But as "he" was beautifull they decided to wait until "he" found a home. A few days before she was due to be put down, some volunteers went to save as many dogs as they could and took ESTRELLA with them. When they got ESTRELLA inside the car, they noticed some blood stains and thought ESTRELLA had a urine infection, but after checking "him" out they realised it was a "she" and she was on season!!! As soon as it was over, they castrated her and took her to a pet hotel. They thought she would soon find a home, but that didn't happen. She stayed at the pet hotel for 4 months and seeing that no one showed any interest in her, a friend of mine found out about her story and ask us for help. At that time we had an overload of abandoned galgos and we couldn't take any more dogs in, so we agreed that as soon as we had space we would take her in. A month later she was taken from the pet hotel where she was to our foster family in Sevilla. We then picked her up and she came to Galgo Freedom. ESTRELLA is a traumatized dog that needs to have a stable life in a very caring family.

LIVIA was found shivering in a corner in Montequinto, a hunters village in Sevilla. She was easily caught as she was petrified due to the cold. LIVIA is a very affectionate and loving dog. DIVA was found in quite a bad state in the middle of the countryside. She was taken to the pound. She could barely stand up and was very weak. When she arrived we realized she had a wound in one of her ears, so we bandaged it to stop the bleeding. She's a great patient, easy-going, loving, sweet... TIGRE is a small boy who was found wandering through an olive tree plantation. Due to his size it was not easy to catch him and it took a few days of food and patience to finally get him. TIGRE was very thin and traumatized. He was scared of everything and everyone. DAKOTA was caught by a galguero who didn’t want her but was kind enough to catch her and phone us so that we could take care of her. She was taken to a vet clinic where she was dewormed, washed and a blood test done, where it showed that she had Anaplasma. After 28 days of antibiotic treatment, she will be 100% healthy. CAMPEÓN, Zambra and Rumba were given to us by their owner. He had around 10 galgos locked in in individual cages in a garage. No light, no fresh air, little food and water. His owner told us Campeón had been ill, so we asked him what he had suffered from to what he answered "I don't know, and I don't care. He survived and I don't want him. If you haden't picked him up today I would have hanged him from an olive tree. It's that simple!". After this experience I spent 3 nights without being able to sleep; his cold voice struck me so hard. No feelings, a person with no soul. Campeón is a very sweet, affectionate, friendly and gentle... He gets on well with everyone and we are very happy to have him with us. Campeón is slowly gaining weight because he's not greedy, but he now has a gorgeous shiny red hair and he doesn't have such a sad look. For now, no one has shown interest in adopting him and maybe you want to help him "gain some weight" by sponsoring him while he finds a forever home. SWING belonged to a nasty galguero. He had 3 galgos which he didn't want; one of them was SWING. Luckily there other 2 galgos found a home through other assoications. But no one wanted SWING, and we don't understand why. He's absolutely adorable! SWING is an easy-going dog, funny, playfull and very affectionate. He had a skin problem, but has rcovered from it and is doing very well. He's great with people and also with other dogs.

ADAM belonged to a galguero who decided to file his two fangs down. He destroyed them and so when he came to Galgo Freedom we decided he had to have both teeth extracted. With all that he must have gone through, it's amazing how affectionate he is. It's true that he is a bit timid with people he doesn't know, but once you stroke him you quickly win his confidence.

ROMEO was going to be taken to the dog pun by his owner. Some ladies found out and took him in, saving his life. Romeo is a Borzoi puppy. When he arrived, he was quite timid, but a few hours after he was playing with PUMA. When we took him in, we realised his back muscles were not developed due to the lack of exercise. But after a few days running and playing with Puma, we have ssen how his back leg muscles are becoming strong! Good food and exercise are vital! He has his own personality and is very playfull, so he's found a great companion in Puma. SHAKIRA is a really sweet and gentle girl. She gets on well with everyone. She's very sensitive and will follow you everywhere once she knows you. She spent some time at the dog pound in La Puebla de Cazalla, until they told us about her. She was taken to our foster family in Brenes. She's a real beauty, both inside and outside. We are trying our best to get het to gain a few kilos, as she's still too thin, but because she's quite exquisite about her food she's making it difficult for us! After 2 days with us, we took her for a walk and she decided to follow us without a lead, so she now enjoys searching for lizards and small mice! She's a real sweetheart!

We don't know much about GALÁNs life, but we have the impression that he hasn't had a very goodlife. He has various scars and a wound in one of his sides, which makes us all feel very sorry for him. He protects his food and bed, but would not bite and when told off, immediately he backs off. On his left shoulder blade he has no muscle and the vets opinion is that probably the nerve that was conected to that muscle has died due to an accident of some sort. But that doesn't bother him, as he walks and runs like any other dog! He is quite thin and his fur has no shine, but that will shange with good quality food and a relaxed and happy life! JAZZ belonged to a galguero that decided to stop hunting and rescue abandoned and mistreated galgos. 3 months ago the caretaker of the hunting ground next door didn't want this man to have so many dogs, so when Jazz's owner went to the village one day to shop, the caretaker decided to hang all of Jazz's owners dogs on his plot of land. Jazz was one of the few survivers, as he could not catch him and escaped. Jazz's owner has been on psycological treatment and Jazz never got over so much pain and horror. Jazz's owner tried so hard to get Jazz to get over the trauma, but every time the caretaker passed by with his car, Jazz would freak out. We took Jazz home and since then he has been improving day by day and has become a perfectly rehomable dog. He's sweet and affectionate, loves to be cuddled and to play with the other dogs.

MERLIN is a deaf galgo-mix. He's got a really soft and gentle character, but as many white dogs, he's completely deaf. He gets on well with everyone, people and dogs, but because he is deaf, he doesn't hear when other dogs growl at him, so he has quite a few scars due to this. Before he came to Galgo Freedom, he was bitten by a mastin. He threw himself to the floor, but the mastin bit him near his testicles. Luckily he was immediately cured and only has a scar. Poor Merlin! Sometimes he has such a sad look in his face! He's an absolutely darling and very calm. Shares his food and bed and loves to play with other dogs. He gets along with males, females and puppies too. He also likes to go for a ride in the car and walk on a lead.

LILLY was found together with her sister Chilly totally exhausted after running behind their owners car, who had decided to drive away at full speed and leave them behind. We found Leila in a gypsy area in „La Puebla de Cazalla“. She was eating from a rubbish tip but ran away when she saw our car stop near her. Our car was already full of galgos which we were going to take our foster family in Sevilla, but we cuold not leave her behind. It took us 3 hours to catch her. We were all exhausted at the end! Thanks to Elena and the recently rescued galgos, Sandy und Orión, did we manage to catch her and get her into our car. She is gaiing confidence and has improved a lot in quite a short period of time. SUERTE is a very sweet and gentle galgo girl. She has gorgeous eyes and a very tender look. All dogs love her and she gets on well with everyone. With people she doesn't know she might be timid, but when she gets to know you she will want all your attention. She gave birth to her pups a month ago and her owner decided to get rid of her once she had fed the puppies. She was not "usefull" anymore. He kept the poor pups! Suerte was immediately picked up by our team at La Puebla de Cazalla and taken to a foster family where she could recover until we could go to pick her up.

EYLA was used as a breeding machine. After she gave birth to her last puppies, they took them away and wanted to chuck poor EYLA out. Thank God her owner told us. Her tits were full of milk and when she arrived home she was desperately seraching for her pups. As she was bleeding from her vulva, we decided to castrate her. She's recovering very well and doesn´t like dry food so she's eating pasta with meat or tuna. What a change: from old bread to meat and tuna! She's an adorable granny. When she arrived she was very uneasy searching for her pups, but now she's settling in very well, but will need some time to recover. Lydia found TIGER wandering through the street. As she knew Tigers owner she had to give him back. When she went to search for his owner he found he was not really interested in having him back, so she managed to convince him to give him to her. That was Tigers luck! TIGER was living with a foster family in Sevilla for 2 months and thanks to that he has become a gorgeous and healthy boy. He's good-natured, calm, affectionate, sweet... A great dog to have! When he arrived home, we noticed he walked in a strange way, so we took some X-rays and Sandra Scheideger (Pension Grisette) ask her specialist vet to give us his opinion. This is his answer: "His hip is ok, but his pelvis is asymmetrical, which could make him walk in a "strange way"!"

APOLLO was our nightmare for 3 whole days. They had told us a Galo pup had been taken to the killing station in Sevilla. We immediately ask friends to take him out of there, but due to beurocratic issues, we had to wait 3 days to be able to get him out of there. When we finally managed to take him out, we took him to a vet clinic where he was observed and taken care of for 3 days. BLANCA was given to us by her owner. We also 2 more galgos that are at our foster family in Sevilla. He considered they were in great shape. Obviously our criteria differ from his. BLANCA was given to us totally unnourished and the 2 other galgos were obese and had barely no hair on their back and their hair was filthy and very greasy. BLANCA wanted to bite everyone who got close to her. When he got her in the car, we realized her backside was covered in diahrrea and we could see all her ribs and count her vertebrae and her tail bones. "In a goos state" would not be my choice of words! BLANCA was living with a foster family in Sevilla for 1 month where she gained some weight and some confidence too. When she arrived home, she still wanted to bite when she felt cornered, but that only lasted 24 hours. Since then, she has become a sweet and playfull lady. Rumba is a young female galgo. She lovesto play, have fun and run! Gets on well with other dogs and also with people. Her way of running is incredibly elegant.

ISHA was found by Elena whilst walking her own dogs. Isha was very interested in Elenas dogs and wanted to get close to smell them. That made it very easy for Elena to catch her. Elena took her home, but as she has 5 dogs of her own and little space left, Isha was taken to our foster family in Sevilla. Here she lived with many oethr dogs and got on well with all of them. She loves to play, but she also likes her peace and quietness! Isha is the first one to get everyone to play! She's incredibly sweet and affectionate. Would you like to sponsor her?
